The road by the Soča river leading from Trbiž/Treviso via Gorica/Gorizia to Trieste played an important role in the traffic policy of the Inneraustrian and Austrian central authorities, as well as of the provincial authorities of Gorica/Gorizia, as it was the shortest transport route linking the West-Austrian and German lands with the port of Trst/Trieste. The road, however, was never constructed in its entirety. The important role it could have played can be deduced mainly from the archive materials, which illustrate its significance and provide data on the financial expenses in connection with its construction.
