In the years 1763-1785, numerous military maps (scale 1:28,800) were made of the whole territory of the former Monarchy for the use of the Austrian army. They were supplemented by descriptions of places located in these areas, with more detailed descriptions under the sub-titles of: houses, rivers, roads, country lanes, mountains and hills, forests. The article contains translations ofselected descriptions ofthese sections, or the sections relating to the Tolmin region, which is bounded by the Kreda and Robič in the west, Tmovo in the north, Doblar, Tolminski Lom and Trebuše in the south, and the Šentviška plateau and Podbrdo in the east.
