In 1945, the Communist authorities assumed ideological supervision of historical publications, (as they did with all other publications), including the Kronika magazine for Slovenian local history. Following the instructions issued by the Ministry of Education on bringing ideologically unsuitable literature into line, the editors of Kronika compiled a list of the chapters of the magazine that were considered ideologically and politically unsuitable and which were to be taken out before the Kronika could be sold again. The events concerning the Kronika magazine illustrate the cultural and political views of the communist ideologists, who assessed cultural achievements from the perspective oftheir own political needs.
