Description
The article depicts characteristic features of the preserved art heritage in the Kočevje region. Most of the monuments are sacral and they reveal local workshop tradition edging on folk creativity between late Gothic art and Historical styles of the 19th century, rare precious objects and connections with larger centres. The structure of settlement and historical circumstances emphasised special features of the region, revealed in slower acceptance of new styles and stereotyped preservation of older features. They represent a connection between ethnology and the history of art. Characteristic expressivity, which is not only provincial, has been called "endemic" art.
