Constituencies for the parliamentary elections in Frankfurt and Vienna were nationally mixed. In addition to the inhabitants of the largest German-speaking area in Slovenia, the Slovenes also voted. Most of the Germans and the Slovenes were farmers. Judging from the preserved ballot papers, the first signs of Slovene national feelings appeared. In all, 27 candidates ran for the parliament in Frankfurt together with the Slovene candidates. Yet, no signs of national intolerance could be traced, which became even more obvious at the elections to the parliament in Vienna. Due to the procedural mistakes and a declined mandate, the parliamentary elections in Vienna had to be repeated three times, on 20th June, 1st July, and 28th August. At the first and the second elections the farming population, regardless of nationality, strived to act together so that their candidate would win. At the last election the farmers were fed up with everything, indifferent and even opportunistic to a degree that they cast their votes for a representative of the most conservative powers in Carniola.
