The article describes the life story of a simple small farmer Valentin Kožar (1734 - 1793) from Pušče by Velike Lašče, who established himself as a well-known retailer and loaner in livestock trade. His business stretched from Croatia to Friuli. Kožar's wealth rose to over 10,000 guilders of recoverable debts and 3,000 guilders in cash. The sum was higher than the yearly income of the whole Turjak County, where Kožar remained a serf until his death despite his wealth. The example of this rural entrepreneur is all the more interesting since Kožar was a humble and illiterate man.
