Jurij Trunk's book Amerika in Amerikanci (Klagenfurt, 1912) was illustrated by the Slovene artist Ivan Vavpotič, a master of book illustration. His drawing is notable for its realism, eye for detail and wit, qualities also apparent in his pen-and-ink drawings for Trunk's book. In addition to 351 photographs by various photographers, the book contains 68 vignettes, 7 large illustrations and 94 initials from the pen of Ivan Vavpotič (1877 - 1943). The author of the article publishes most of Vavpotič's initials and ali seven illustrations, and analyses and comments on them with the help of Trunk's text. The emphasis is on their narrative content rather than on their aesthetic or artistic expressiveness. Vavpotič's illustrations for Trunk's book are one of the few examples - if not the only example - of Works of art which deal with the topič of Slovene emigration before the First World War.
