The public Družba sv. Mohorja has since its foundation in 1852 beside the religious-educational mission been performing a very important task - national awareness, education and cultural progress among Slovenes in thè home country and abroad. The author presents the Society's activity in the Kanal valley from the occurrence of the first members of the Society in that permanently exposed part of the bordering Slovene ethnic territory to thè end of World War I, when a great part of our ethnic territory, together with the mentioned bordering one that during the Habsburg Monarchy belonged to the province of Carinthia, belonged to Italy. On the basis of annual lists of members of the Society in the Calenders of the Society of St. Mohor tables and indexes were made that show the development of the limbs of the Society in eleven posts in the Kanal valle, the corporate number of posts, professional construction, as we can see it from the mentioned calendar lists. Some of the most important members ofthe Society in that area are separately mentioned.
