This year marks 100 years since the Russian revolutions of 1917 (of February and October), which shocked and shook the world with their far-reaching repercussions. Since then, there have been countless interpretations of the significance of those events; a boundless sea of works has been written on the unique, milestone and fatal nature of the October Revolution in Petrograd ... or merely on the logical necessity for it. A part of the history of a revolution is undoubtedly the changing views on it, which is why they are worth a closer look, for only then will we be able to better understand its global effects and make sense of present and future political standpoints. This paper presents the changing global perspective on Russian revolutions throughout the short 20th century, incorporating the Slovenian view. The conclusion mentions some of the most recent historiographical trends, which are slowly pushing the word revolution out of the vocabulary and replacing it with »dissolution of the Russian Empire«.
