Among personal fonds in the Regional Archives Nova Gorica we also keep
the fond of doctors who belong to generations after the First and Second World
War: dr. Stanislav Pavlica, dr. Izidor Reja, dr. Branko Rustja, dr. Jože Andlovic, dr.
Franc Marušič, and dr. Anton Prijatelj. Dr. Anton Prijatelj, occupational medicine expert, was born in Sarajevo and spent his youth and schooling in Ljubljana
where he graduated at the medical faculty in 1956. After passing the professional certification exam, he started working as a doctor in infirmary in Meblo
furniture factory in Nova Gorica, then in Occupational Medicine Clinic in Health
Centre Nova Gorica, which he founded in 1971 and headed until 1974. From
1975 to 1978, he functioned as the director of the Basic Organization of Associated Labour of General Health Nova Gorica. Alongside his regular work as
a doctor, he studied health conditions of workers and the impact of work environment on their health. After specialisation in 1975, he received his master‘s
degree Delovanje lesnega prahu na dihalni sistem (The influence of wood dust on
respiratory system), and defended his doctoral thesis Vpliv nekaterih socialnih
dejavnikov na bolovanje (The influence of certain social factors on suffering from illness) at Medical Faculty in Ljubljana in 1983. Health education was an important part of his work and studies; he lectured in post-graduate studies of occupational medicine for doctors, head nurses, staff nurses, and mentored numerous occupational medicine specialists. With his contributions, he participated
in number of congresses and symposia in occupational medicine. He published
a number of articles in professional journals, popular medical papers, and offered advice on television and radio. He was also the author of two best-selling
books titled Pijem, torej sem (1992) and Bog daj zdravje! Slomšek zdravstveni
vzgojitelj (1993). He was greatly devoted, especially after retiring, to the history
of medicine with emphasis on Primorska.
