Description
This paper investigates the society and economy of Slovenia in the interwar period and from the perspective of modernity. Particularly typical for this period was the intertwinement of different levels of modernity since the rhythm of modernity was by no means uniform. The then Slovene society could be defi ned as a society of contrasts in which premodern and modern economic and social forms existed side by side, occasionally even without any contact. This was still a society torn between progressive modernization and the risks that such progress entailed.
