Description
Gymnastics, sports, and modem Olympic Games are all social innovations of 19th-century Europe. In the second half of the 19th Century these concepts reached the Slovene cultural domain as well. The paper focuses on the phenomenon and development ofgymnastics in the territory of present-day Slovenia. Although stereotypically regarded as having been strongly influenced by Bohemia, the development of Slovene gymnastics was largely autonomous.

- Telovadba, šport, modema olimpijska tekmovanja so socialna inovacija 19. stoletja in evropskega prostora, na eni strani celinskega, na drugi angleškega in so v slovenski kulturni prostor vstopili v drugi polovici 19. stoletja. V prispevku osvetlimo pojav in razvoj gimnastike ali telovadbe na Slovenskem, ki je bil v veliki meri avtonomen, medtem ko se stereotipno poudarja češki vzor.
