Development of hospital schools je related to development of pedagogy, cultural-social changes in society and the development of paediatrics as an independent medical discipline. Their purpose was mostly in the nature of therapy. They were established on the initiative of paediatricians and those individuals who believed that psycho-physical state of children are as well important as medical results of medical treatment. Special school by Hospital for bone and joint illnesses Valdoltra was funded on the 1st of September 1956. It was moved from the Clinic for bone TBC in Šempeter. Special school by Orthopaedic Hospital Valdoltra maintained children’s working habits, joy and a contact with the outside world, so they could easier get include into domestic or school environment after the therapy completion. In recovery centre and later hospital in Valdoltra until the sixties of 20th century they have been treating osteoarticular tuberculosis, in seventies and later they treated mostly orthopaedic diseases. In nineties the hospitalisation period after operation for children got shortened and on the 31st of August the School was abolished. Education for children from the hospital in Valdoltra got over by the Primary school Dekani.
