Based on the archives and newspaper sources, the article outlines the development and activities
of the first workers* trade association in Carniola, the association of printers, established
in Ljubljana in 1868. Although the association was passive from the political point of view,
it played an important role as an educational and charitable body. It organized lectures and
started a rich library. It established relief funds for the sick and the disabled, for widows and
orphans, for the unemployed, as well as funds for traveling expenses and education. It entertained
lively relations with other printers' association in Austria-Hungary and elsewhere in
Europe.
