The Slovene school museum was founded in the year 1898. The article describes the foundation and development of collections of teaching aids and school museums from the first half of 19th century onwards and especially the history of the foundation of the Slovene school museum. The motive power for its foundation was the association of Slovene teachers societies. The article gives a short presentation of museum's activities in the last hundred years, with the emphasis on its closure in 1912 and the reopening in 1938. At firts the Museum of Slovene schools as it was then called had only the department for primary schools, the department for secondary schools was established in 1940. In 1945 the museum was renamed Slovene school museum again.
