Janko Jarc was born in Črnomelj on December 25, 1903. He studied history and Slavonic philology in Prague and Ljubljana, where he took his degree in 1931. For many years, he was a head of the museum Dolenjski muzej in Novo mesto (1950-1975). His scientific and pubIicistic opus comprises several books and treatises dealing with the history of Novo mesto, Dolenjska (Lower Carniola), Bela Krajina and the National Liberation War in Slovenia. He died in Novo mesto on October 24, 1995.
