Prof. Dr. Ignacij Voje was born on February 28,1926, in Ljubljana. In 1951 he graduated from history at Ljubljana University. However, before taking his diploma, he focused his attention, under the mentorship of Prof. Gregor Čremošnik, on researches into the history of the Balkan Peninsula and its nations. After having finished his studies, he perfected his knowledge and worked on dissertation for his doctor's degree in Dubrovnik and Sarajevo. From 1961 till his retirement in 1993 he lectured the history of South-eastern Europe at Ljubljana Faculty of Arts. His scientific work, however, was mostly concentrated on finding out the connections between the Slovene history and the history of Dubrovnik, Bosnia and Osmanli state.
