Josip Lučič was born on July 1st, 1924, in Poličnik by Zadar. In 1952 he graduated at Zagreb Faculty of Arts, where he worked as an assistant for Croatian medieval history for some years. Later on, he became a collaborator of the Centre for Historical Sciences at Zagreb University and a lecturer in Zadar and Dubrovnik. In his work, he dealt with the medieval history of Dubrovnik, published many studies and treatises and took care of sources publishing in a series Monumenta historica Ragusina.
Prof. Dr. Josip Lučič died on December 3rd, 1994, in still besieged Dubrovnik, from where his family came and to which he dedicated his scientific work.
