Miroslav Stiplovšek was born on July 18th, 1935, in Ljubljana. In 1960, he took a degree in history at Ljubljana University and started to work there as an assistant a year later. He took his doctor's degree in 1966. Since 1981 he has been a full professor for modern history. His research work is focused on the development of workers' - mostly professional and trade union - movement, on the history of the period between the Wars and on the research of resistance movement during the Second World War.
