Archeologist Tone Knez, custodian of the Dolenjski muzej (Museum of Lower Carniola) in Novo mesto, won recognition mostly with his prehistoric excavations in Novo mesto and its wider surrounding. Some of them were systematic, in most cases, however, they were protective interventions. He become famous with his excellent excavation technique, strong care for qualitative restoration, as well as for museum and book presentation. He's one of few Slovene archeologists, who published the results of his work practically entirely. His extensive bibliography, comprising 15 books and numerous articles, has been published by Arheološki vestnik 44/1993. He often cooperated with historians. He was attracted by some of their interpretational methods and the question of cultural continuation, irrespective of national and political changes.
