Jože Žontar (born on March 15th, 1932, in Kranj) graduated from history at the Faculty of Arts in Ljubljana. He took up his first duties in the Archives of Slovenia. In 1972 he was named the head of the Municipal Archives Ljubljana which he chaired till 1992. He took the doctor's degee in 1977 with the dissertation The Administration and Judicature Structure in Slovenia from the Middle of the 18th Century till 1848. As a senior university teacher he began to lecturc Archive Science at the Faculty of Arts in 1979. In 1985 he was elected associate professor and in 1990 full professor. The jubilee record is followed by the bibliography of his published works.

      • Jože Žontar (r. 15. 3. 1932 v Kranju) je leta 1955 diplomiral na enopredmetni skupini iz zgodovine na filozofski fakulteti v Ljubljani. Svojo prvo službo je nastopil v Arhivu Slovenije. Leta 1971 je postal direktor Mestnega arhiva Ljubljana in ga vodil do 1992. Doktoriral je 1977 s temo Struktura uprave in sodstva na Slovenskem od srede 18. stoletja do leta 1848. Kot docent je 1979 pričel predavati Arhivistiko na filozofski fakulteti Univerze v Ljubljani in bil 1985 izvoljen v izrednega, 1990 pa v rednega profesorja. Jubilejnemu zapisu je dodana bibliografija objav prof. dr. Žontarja
