Marjan Britovšek vvas born on the 23rd of August 1923 in Slovenj Gradec. He took his university degree in 1949. Since the 1st December 1951 he was assistant at the History Department of the Faculty of Arts in Ljubljana. He took his doctor's degree in 1960 and became in 1962 a university teacher at the Sociology Department where he is regular professor.
His work can be divided into four parts. Two comprise the problematics of the European labour movement, one the West European labour movement, the other research into the history of socialism in the Soviet Union. Three of his monographs are here to be mentioned: Boj za Leninovo dediščino (1976) — (Struggle for Lenln's Heritage), Carizem, revolucija, stalinizem (1980) — (Carism, Revolution, Stalinism), and Stalinov dermidor (1984) — (Stalin's Thermidor). The third part are works dedicated to Anton Fister. The fourth part are researches from the agrarian history which was the theme of his doctoral dissertation, published under the title Disintegration of the Feudal Agrarian Structure ln Carniola (1964).
