Description
The main factors in the history of iron works, production of raw iron and steel, in the Slovene territory in the period between 1835 to 1914 are dealt with in this article. The follovving phases of its development are most noticeable: between 1835—1862 the iron works were mainly centred in Kranjska (Carniola), the puddling plant and rolling mill at Prevalje was also important. Between 1870 and 1896 the Mežiška valley in Slovenska Koroška (Slovene Carinthia) became dominant (places as Črna, Ravne, and especially Prevalje); between 1897 and 1914 the dominant role vvas taken over by three furnaces and iron works at Skedenj near Trst (Trieste), that is in Slovensko Primorje (the Slovene Littoral).
