Bogo Grafenauer was bom on 16 March 1916 in Ljubljana. After having graduated and after he had received his doctorate at the Universitv of Ljubljana he was elected as Assistant Professor in 1946, Associate Professor in 1951, and Professor of Slovene History in 1956. His scientific work is centred mainly in the settlement of the Slovenes and other Yugoslav nations, in their first states and social structure, peasant uprisings of the Slovenes and Croats and the history of the Carinthian Slovenes. He cooperated in preparations of the first two books of the History of Nations in Yugoslavia and he is preparing now the second edition of his History of the Slovenes (until 1848). He also works on the methodology of history. He was the editor of the Historical Review for the first 22 years and he is a member of the Slovene Academy of Arts and Sciences.
