After the First World War Prekmurje belonged to the state of Yugoslavia. Systematic nationalist pressure on the Hungarian national minority practised by the Slovene authorities lasted till the beginning of the Second World War. Then Prekmurje was occupied by the Hungarian troops but the Hungarian minority felt no substantial changes of its economic situation.
