After he had finished the study of history and geography in Vienna, Silvo Kranjec became a secondary school professor with remarkable results in the field of pedagogy. He is particularly known as a writer of popular and scientific works covering both fields of his study. His synthetically written works on the history of Serbs, the history of Europe »from Napoleon to Lenin«, the history of the Adriatic Sea, and specially on the contemporary Slovene history are well known. Besides his organizational work and contributton to Slovene historical reviews one should also mention a series of articles for the »Slovene Biographical Lexicon« and the »Yugoslav Encyclopedia«. The necrologist emphasized that »the work of Kranjec reflects his great knowledge and high historical culture«.
