The author gives a short survey of the history of Ormož and its close surrounding. Ormož and its surrounding were populated already in the younger Stone Age. The continuity of its being populated can be seen till the arrival of the Romans and later of the Slavs, and since the foundation of the feudal statein the time of Charles the Great. The role of the colonization of this territory inthe period from the 9th till the 13th century at last comes to an expression also in the year 1273, as Ormož was mentioned in the archive sources for the first time. The town then developed in close dependence of the land lords from the time of the town founders Ptuj Landlords till its last owner Franz Pamer von Friedan.
