The article covers a historical overview of the activities of the Surveying and Mapping Authority on Slovenian territory, with particular reference to the area of the current Ptuj Administrative Unit in the second half of the 20th century. It briefly summarizes the historical development of the surveying service at the end of the 19th and the first half of the 20th century. On the other hand, the article more thoroughly presents the organization of surveying services as institutions and their activities based on legislation in the second half of the 20th and the beginning of the 21st century. The example of the institution Surveying and Mapping Authority Ptuj shows the activities of the regional surveying services in the second half of the 20th century in the Ptuj area.
